MP Njeri Maina launches program to help marginalized women, youth

Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has launched a program to safeguard the future of needy women and youths.

In a colourful event held at Kutus Primary School on Saturday, Kirinyaga County, MP Njeri said the social-economic empowerment programme seeks to transform the lives of vulnerable groups.

She said the program, introduced in 2022, is focused on issuing bursaries to school-going children, supporting women groups and Persons Living with Disabilities.

“We launched this social program out of our commitment to bettering the lives of our people. Tupange Kesho program is meeting the marginalized women and youth groups at their pain points even with the meagre funds,” Njeri said.

Kirinyaga Senator James Murango Kamau was present at the function.

Njeri said they have injected over Sh15 million in capital to support over 139 women and youth groups in Kirinyaga County.

She added that under the socio-economic empowerment project, they have supplied 245 tents at Sh24.5 million, over 230 water tanks at Sh8 million and school lockers and chairs.

“We have also built dormitories for special schools, dug boreholes, and donated sanitary towels at Sh11 million. The groups under her projects have also benefitted from Sh3 million piped water projects and 50 bee hives at Sh500,000,” she added.

During the Saturday event, the MP distributed a bursary worth Sh3 million to about 550 students to facilitate their education.

About 521 orphaned students and those living with disabilities received scholarships worth Sh1 million.

“So far, over 2115 students have benefitted from over Sh11 million bursaries we have offered to boost education 104 students have received full scholarships,” Njeri said.

“And that is why were are pushing for the need to increase allocation to Women representative offices so that we may largely increase our much needed dire impact."
