Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Thursday said Azimio would be seeking to be enjoined in the petition challenging the alleged 'overtaxation' of Kenyans.

He praised the intent and motive of those who filed the suit saying a possible victory would be collective good.

"It will be in the best interests that we too enjoin ourselves in the case. Victory in the case will be a victory for Kenyans as a whole," stated Kalonzo in central Kisii during the tour to Gusii which also took him to Nyamira.

The 'anti-overtaxation' petition was filed in the High Court in December 2023.

The petitioners had gone to court seeking the capping of the amount of tax Kenyans can pay.

They want the court to intervene and protect citizens from what they termed as unfair, oppressive and arbitrary taxes, levies and other charges.

Musyoka said little has been done by the government to address issues raised by petitioners.

"No country ever flourished on the strength of harsh and inhumane taxation regimes," Musyoka told a crowd at the Capital Round About in Kisii town late Thursday.

"We can not sit back and helplessly watch as our people suffer. Someone must stand up for those trapped in shackles and who cannot speak for themselves," stated Musyoka.

The Wiper Party boss also castigated security agencies in Kisii for being used to frustrate Kisii Governor Simba Arati.

Arati who played host said the war on graft by his administration has not been easy since he became governor close to two years.

He said he was even ready to die if standing for the truth was the ultimate cost he would pay.

"Corruption also fights back. This is the sacrifice we are paying and I will not recoil back an inch," he stated.

Arati spoke of a resurgence of organized crime in Kisii and asked Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to address the menace.

"Criminal groups must be investigated so that we know who are these people above the law slaughtering people like chicken," said Arati.

He joined the clarion call by other leaders on Ruto to reign in on claims of 'over-taxation'.

Former CS Eugene Wamalwa who accompanied Musyoka to the region praised the Gusii people for overwhelmingly voting for Azimio.

He asked Ruto to address prices of basic commodities such as bread.

"It is not for nothing that we are seeing restlessness even among his people in Rift Valley," warned Wamalwa.

Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindwa said the Wiper Party was on a deliberate drive to salvage the country as she drummed up support for a Kalonzo presidency.

She questioned the rationale of the affordable housing scheme when it cannot address problems facing the vulnerable and poor in society.

She spoke of staggering inflation and over-taxation since Ruto ascended to the presidency.

MP Musyimi Mawathe(Embakasi South) said Kalonzo was better placed to address inflation when he becomes president.

Bobasi MP Innocent Obiri said the Gusii would stand solidly behind a Kalonzo candidature.

Former Borabu MP Ben Momanyi, on his part, sounded optimistic that Kalonzo will be president when the country conducts another poll in 2027.

He castigated harassment by government-allied politicians of Kisii Governor Simba Arati.

Samuel Omwando, who unsuccessfully vied for Kitutu Chache North seat, said Kisii will solidly and overwhelmingly vote Musyoka for president

"He is the watermelon he was known but a stalwart whose journey victory journey to Statehouse is sealed,", he told pockets of crowds that turned to receive him.
