Keroka have vowed to retain the Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions Sports Organization (KATTISO) Lake Region championships track and field title.

The event to be held at Asumbi Teachers Training College (TTC) on Friday and Saturday will feature athletics, badminton, table tennis and floorball.

On Wednesday, Keroka Technical Training Institute games tutor, Peter Bett, said they are ready to defend their title when the two-day event gets underway at Asumbi on Friday.

“Despite the heavy rains pounding the region, we have trained well. Our target is to retain our title during the two-day championship. This is an event we have dominated for several years and we are confident of doing it again,” said Bett.

He added: “I know there will be stiff competition but we are not afraid of any team.”

Bett added: “Last year, we didn’t do well in indoor games but this time, I believe we have better teams that will challenge for titles.”

KATTISO Lake Region Secretary General, Edward Sogoni, said all preparations are complete.

“All is set. Some institutions have started arriving in Asumbi in readiness for the championship. We expect a highly competitive event,” said Sogoni.

Sogoni added that 29 institutions will take part in athletics, three in floorball and eight in table tennis and badminton.

The two-day championships will be used to select a team that will represent the region at the KATTISO nationals to be held at Nyayo National Stadium from May 8 to 12.

“Initially, we wanted to hold our championships on May 15-18 but we changed because the national track and field championships will be held on the same date and venue,” he added.
