Kabras lock Bunduki set to join South African Currie Cup outfit Griffons

He will be in South Africa for the high-performance training and up-skilling programme for the next six months.

Kabras RFC lock David Bunduki will join South African Currie Cup outfit Griffons Rugby, the club has announced.

The towering lock forward, who joined the Sugar Millers from Masinde Muliro University two years ago, will be down south as part of an exchange programme between the four-time Kenya Cup champions and the South African side.

During his stay with the South African provincial side, he will be involved in high-performance training and up-skilling programmes.

A statement from Kabras read: "Our Kenya Cup champion will join Griffons Rugby Club as part of an exchange programme with Kabras Rugby Club.

He will be in South Africa for the high-performance training and upskilling programme for the next six months.

"He becomes the second Kabras player to join Griffons after Hillary Mwanjilwa.In South Africa, he joins teammates James Olela and Jacktone Omondi who are part of the Rhinos High Performance Training programme.

Bunduki was capped for the very first time as a Simbas player last year in two test matches against Uganda in the Victoria and Elgon Cup tournaments.

He said he is delighted to have the opportunity to join the Griffons Club. "It's an honour to train and improve my skills in South Africa. I believe I will be a better player and bring some of the things I learn back home," observed Bunduki.

Elsewhere, Kabras have been confirmed hosts of the second leg of the National Sevens Circuit which starts in July.

The tournament will take place from August 3-4  but the circuit will commence with the Christie Sevens on July 27-28.

There will be a two-week break after the Kakamega event before the battle resumes on August 17-18 at the Dala Sevens in Kisumu.

The Kabeberi Sevens will follow a week later with the series concluding with the Driftwood Sevens and Prinsloo Sevens in September.
