Late Senior Sergeant John Kinyua's children have eulogised their father as a family man who used creative tactics to instil discipline and other virtues in them.

They said their father not only used the tactics to create a strong bond in both their nuclear and extended families.

Kinyua's son Harvey Muriithi, 8, described his father as a man fond of using creative tactics to instil discipline and bravery in them.

Kinyua died on April 18 in a chopper crash alongside nine other colleagues including the Chief of the Defence Forces Francis Ogolla.

The officers died when the helicopter they were flying in came down in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Kinyua was laid to rest at Kirimunge village in Kirinyaga Central Subcounty, Kirinyaga County on Friday.

"Dad, it's painful to believe that you are gone. The memories that we created together will remain fresh in my heart," Muriithi said.

"The playtime, disciplinary tactics, the adventure and most importantly the bond that you created between our nuclear family and the extended family are beyond explanation," he said in his tribute.

To instil the virtue of bravery in him, his son narrated how his father would tell him to ride to his grandparents' home on a bicycle from Kerugoya town to his Kirimunge home, over 10 kilometres away, while he used a motorbike.

"You were just teaching me how to become a courageous man," he said.

Effie Nyakio,3, described him as a loving family man who plaited her hair, picked her from school and was fond of entertaining her with songs.

His wife Grace Wambui described him as a devoted religious man who never missed church when he was around, actively participated in church activities and taught his children the virtue of reading the Bible.

"I will endeavour to train our children the many virtues you had, the way you taught them to read the Bible and carry the Bible to school, being a timekeeper and also being principled," Wambui noted.

She said they had so many projects that they were planning to undertake before his untimely death.

Kinyua's brothers said he always ensured they had a get-together with their spouses and children at their parents' home as a way of bringing unity to the family.

"We recall the many times we met as four brothers together with our dad for men talk and used to challenge us a lot in ensuring our family and every family have an income generating project," they noted.
