Police in Kisii have rejected an application by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party to hold demonstration on Friday.

A similar application by a civil society organisation, the Gusii Governance Watch, also stand canceled.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, the County Police Commander Charles Kases said the move was to avoid any possible clash among protesters.

"The reason for cancellation is to stem possible clash between the protesters from both sides," Kases said.

But in a quick rejoinder, ODM Kisii chair Kerosi Ondieki said the demos will go on.

"Holding demonstrations is a right and they shall go on whether he likes it or not, " Ondieki told the Star on the phone.

He instead said they might hold parallel demos; one against the County Commander himself and the other against the alleged harassment of Governor Simba Arati.

ODM said it had applied for permission to hold the protests over what it has alleged as 'state harassment' of Arati.

Speaking to journalists in Kisii on Wednesday, Ondieki said the planned demos will run across all towns across the county.

On Tuesday, Ward Reps at the Kisii Assembly called for investigation into the alleged leaked audio attributed to a senior detective and claiming there is a plot to have Arati detained.

The clip had been doing rounds on social media for a week now.

According to Ondieki, the alleged harassment against Arati is a calculated scheme hatched to frustrate to frustrate the governor.

"This is nothing but a well scheme aimed at distracting the governor from his work. It should stop," Ondieki stated.

"We gathered here to express our displeasure at the events unfolding around the governor.

They have called on Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to ensure Arati's safety is guaranteed.
