Gusii leaders say the one-man, one-shilling fund allocation formula being championed by Mt Kenya leaders is untenable

They said it was impractical at the moment and if applied it would drag further backward other regions.

The Kisii leaders were reacting to a meeting held by Mt Kenya leaders at Limuru III meeting on Friday where the leaders rooted for the resource allocation formula.

The Kisii leaders consisted of Majority Chief Whip Sylvanus Osor (also South Mugirango MP) Kitutu Chache North MP Japhet Nyakundi and Nyaribari Chache Mp Zaheer Jhanda.

Others were Bomachoge Chache MP and Bonchari MP Charles Onchoke.

"They (Mt Kenya leaders) met and spoke much of sweet nothings, they are already reaping too much from the Ruto government. As we speak also half of the all appointees hail from the region so they should stop lamenting," Osoro said.

Osoro said they would only continue agitating and rooting for what is right and for the collective good of the Kenyan people irrespective of where they come from.

He said many similar meetings are likely to spring up if such agendas are pushed into the national political platform.

"Even us then we are starting the Gusii One summit if that is what they want," he said.

Kitutu Chache North MP Japhet Nyakundi- also United Democratic Alliance Party national treasurer, described the one man, one man, one shilling formula as likely to significantly affect counties that had been lagging behind.

"We are treading on dangerous grounds, these are issues that are largely disagreeable. Different regions have different problems," he said.

"There are many things we can agree on but allow me to differ sharply with him on this."rer.

The leaders were speaking at a church fundraiser in Kegati, Nyaribari Chache in Kisii on Sunday.

MP Nyakundi separately, denounced the proposed taxation on bread saying it will lock the poor out of the reach of basic commodities in the Country.

"Yes, I am in government but will not allow taxation on bread. But you're going to make your mind known during the public participation exercises going on across the country," Nyakundi said.

The legislator said they shall only allow the proposed Finance Bill to sail through Parliament if it does not contain provisions on any taxations on bread.

And on local politics, the MP said only through unity can the leaders push the region's development forward.

Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda castigated the county for failing to repair its share of roads in the area.

He, however, spoke of an elaborate plan to improve the road network in the larger Nyaribari Chache constituency.

Bonchari MP Charles Onchoke said they will deliberate and take a joint stand on the 2024 Finance Bill.

Already, he said, they have started talks aimed at uniting the county leaders.

Bomachoge Chache MP Alfa Miruka, on his part, asked the electorate to vote out non-performing leaders.

The MP said the electorate sorely yearns for improved livelihood and not empty politicking.

He attacked proposed taxes on bread saying it would hurt the poor more.

Woman Rep Donya Toto also rejected taxes on basic commodities. Instead, she said more taxes should be imposed on alcohol products and not basic commodities.

West Mugirango MP Steve Mogaka lauded UDA leaders for fighting for Nyamira University adding that they shall forge unity to aid facilitate in region's development.

Mogaka said the Treasury had enough resources that could only be tapped to benefit the region if the leaders stayed united.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati's wife May was also in attendance.
