Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisely Rotich has established a delivery unit to lead the implementation of development projects.
He said the Governor's Delivery Unit (GDU) will be critical in spearheading and monitoring all the county government programmes.
The governor has appointed Philemon Biwott to head the new unit.
The new unit, which will be the nerve centre of Rotich administration, will be situated at his office in Iten town.
It will help to improve the coordination of programmes and to monitor, evaluate and report on progress.
"The unit will also be responsible for tracking and reporting on status of county government project priorities and programmes as well following up on the governor's directives as concerns county operations," a statement from Rotich's office indicated.
Problem solving and providing practical interventions on government priority projects affected by any challenges or bottlenecks is listed among the roles to be played by Biwott.
Other responsibilities include carrying out independent verification to determine the true status of government projects being implemented at subcounty and ward levels.
Rotich said the new office will also be responsible for creating public awareness on the progress and achievements of the county government through the county website, digital and print media.
Biwott holds a master's degree in strategic management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and a bachelor's degree in economics and statistics from the University of Nairobi.
Until his appointment, he was heading the directorate of enforcement. He will be replaced by his deputy Richard Kilimo in an acting capacity.
"I am honoured to get this opportunity of ensuring that our governor delivers on his mandate and I'll do my best as per the assignment given to me," Biwott said.
He said the governor is keen to ensure full transformation of the county through the projects.
