"Rapist doctor" Mugo wa Wairimu who allegedly assaulted sedated women today will be charged with rape following his arrest yesterday as he was having tea.

Mugo was arrested at a Limuru hotel restaurant after a tip by the public who recognised his face from the press, TV and social media.

Limuru police turned him over to CID headquarters where he recorded a statement on activities at his Prestige Health Center clinic in Githura 44 estate, Nairobi.

By last evening four women had recorded police statements, alleging they had been raped by the quack gynaecologist .

The Ministry of Health said Mugo is not certified to practice medicine.

Last Sunday Kasarani police announced Mugo was being sought after Citizen TV aired a clip of a man said to be Mugo as he apparently sedated and raped women at his clinic.

He went missing on Monday.

Head of CID's Serious Crimes Unit John Kariuki said Mugo would appear in court today to answer

charges of rape and indecent assault.

“He was taking tea and waiting for food. He was alone at the table and two members of the public suspected him since he has been in mainstream and social media,” Limuru OCPD Mohammed Bakuli said.

Westie Njoroge said they notified Limuru AP commander Michael Ndegwa who arrived at Gitungo Hotel with two officers and started interrogating Mugo.

"We were seated in the hotel andnoticed a familiar-looking man at a table," Njoroge said.

"We talked in hushed voices. We suspected it was the controversial doctor, we cross-checked Google, then called the AP boss."

Bakuli said Wairimu had not hired a house and was not staying at the hotel. It was not known where he was staying.

The public flocked to the subcounty police headquarters to see the man who has become notorious.

Mugo's lawyer, Peter Macharia, arrived and said his client was all right.

Police IG Joseph Boinett directed his officers to investigate Wairimu who the Ministry of Health said was not a qualified doctor.

He urged anyone who has been sedated and assaulted to report at Kasarani police station without delay.
