KISII Deputy Governor Joash Maangi and lawyer Fred Orora have faulted county MPs for skipping the just-concluded three-day County Entrepreneurship Summit.

Maangi and Orora separately said the summit was for residents’ benefit.

It was held at the Kisii University grounds from Wednesday to Friday.

He said the county invited all nine MPs but none of them showed up.

Senator Chris Obure and woman representative Mary Otara attended the opening session.

“The summit attracted top entrepreneurs such as industrialist Chris Kirubi, Bidco CEO Vimal Shah, Central Bank chairman Mohamed Nyaoga, Kenya Commercial Bank CEO Joshua Oigara and Jamii Telcom CEO Paul Chepkwony,” Maangi said at the sidelines of the summit.

He said the event was not political and it was unfair for the legislators to skip it.

“It was purely about entrepreneurship. Youth learned how they can run successful businesses,” Maangi said.

Despite the MPs’ absence, the summit was a success, the deputy governor said.

Orora said: “This was a very successful event and it was wrong for MPs to skip it. They want people to remain poor so they can continue bribing them during elections.”

Some youth from Nyamira county criticised MPs from both Kisii and Nyamira counties for not attending the summit.

Nyambega Gisesa said following the success of the event in Kisii, Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama should organise one in the county.

Speaking during the summit, German Ambassador Jutta Frasch said entrepreneurs will not succeed unless they have ready markets for their commodities.

She urged county government to source for foreign markets where they can sell their products.
