TWO WEEKS IN WARDS: Kisii assembly on April 24 last year.

The Kisii assembly adjourned for a week yesterday for MCAs to mobilise residents to register as voters.

The adjournment motion was tabled by Bassi Boitangare MCA Isaiah Mosota.

He said the number of people who have registered since the exercise started on February 15 is very small.

“Mr speaker, following the low turnout in the ongoing registration, there is need for this house to adjourn so members go out and educate the people on the importance of registering as voters ahead of next year’s polls,” Mosota said.

The MCAs will be in their wards from today until March 9.

Mosota said civic education is necessary and the MCAs must take the lead in ensuring the people participate in the important exercise.

“It is good for members to move out and tell the people the importance of exercising their democratic rights,” Mosota said.

MCAs unanimously supported the motion and urged the national government to adequately fund the electoral commission to meet its target of four million new voters.
