Busia will start supplying relief water this week to schools and hospitals hit by severe drought, Water executive Gregory Odeke has said.

Speaking to the press in his Busia office on Tuesday, he said the water will be delivered with department water bowsers.

“It is wrong for people to allege that the cholera outbreak in Budalangi constituency was caused by the Water department,” Odeke said.

“Kenya Power disconnected the water supply’s main source last week.”

The executive said he will work with MCAs and administration officers to identify areas where residents and livestock lack water.

He said the county intervened after realising some residents are walking many kilometres in search of water.

Some students are almost abandoning their studies due to lack of water in their areas, Odeke said.

“We introduced the programme to solve the current situation by providing clean water to the worst-hit areas,” Odeke said.

The executive said the supply will continue until rains come.
