VICTIMS of medical negligence should speak out against rogue practitioners and institutions, the Health CS said yesterday.

Cleopa Mailu said speaking out will help put the spotlight on the malpractices.

He spoke on the sidelines of the Health Sector Intergovernmental Consultative Forum.

Mailu spoke days after a report in the dailies highlighted the plight of medical negligence victims, who are unable to hold the practitioners to account.

The report accused health regulatory agencies of frustrating efforts by the victims to hold the health practitioners culpable.

“I feel sorry and apologise for those who have suffered because of health workers’ malpractices,” Mailu said.

“This should not be used to portray our doctors as careless and incompetent.”

He said they will not entertain any malpractice either by health workers or a health institution.

“To help us deal with these malpractices and deliver quality health services, those aggrieved must stop suffering in silence,” Mailu said.

The CS advised victims of medical negligence or malpractice to first complain to respective hospital managements.
