Individuals engaging in national examination irregularities risk a jail term of five years or a fine not exceeding Sh5 million or both, if a proposed law is enacted.

The proposal by Sabatia MP Alfred Agoi seeks to amend the Kenya National Examination Council Act and establish an Examinations Appeals Tribunal.

The tribunal will consider and determine appeals from the determinations of the council.

The MP’s proposal comes after more than 5,000 students had their 2015 Kenya Certificate of Secondary School examination results cancelled for cheating.

The results were released yesterday by Education CS Fred Matiang’i.

“Innocent students are subjected to torture because of the omission of the council that lead to irregularities,” Agoi said yesterday.
