Motorists stranded at Chugor, Marakwet East after landslide

Motorists have been asked to use an alternative route

Motorists using Kitale- Chesongoch road were stranded on Friday following a landslide at Chugor area in Marakwet East.

Kachibora, Kapchero, Makutano, Kapyego and Chesoi routes were also affected.

Kenya National Highways Authority has dispatched its engineers to the area and mobilised contractors to clear the road.

"Motorists have been asked to use an alternative route," KenHa said in a statement.

The ongoing heavy rains across the country have affected businesses and rendered many roads impassable.

While issuing updated on the sate of the floods, government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna said more than 130 lives have been lost.

The county and national governments and development partners raised Sh420,847,250 and Sh16,760,000 as emergency assistance.
