Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya have been tasked with spearheading negotiations for the revival of the Luhya economy.
Atwoli and Oparanya alongside Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa and Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka will lead formal negotiations that will see the Luhya nation have a say on all fronts.
This follows a meeting comprising Luhya political leaders held at Atwoli’s Kajiado home on Friday.
As a result, the meeting came up with several proposals that will fast track revival of the economy.
This includes revival of the granite industry in Vihiga county, gold refining in Ikolomani and revival of the sugar industry.
While reading the resolutions of the meeting, Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala said they had realigned leadership in both houses that will be part of the negotiations.“In the National Assembly, we shall be led by MP Emmanuel Wangwe and Busia Woman Rep Florence Mutua, while Malala will lead the Senate team,” he said.
Oparanya, Wilberforce Otichilo (Vihiga), Wangamati and Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa attended the meeting.
Members drawn from the ANC, Ford Kenya and ODM attended the meeting.
CS Wamalwa said a time has come for the leaders to come out and speak in one voice in a show of Luhya unity displayed during the BBI rally.
The meeting comes as the leaders contemplate working on building a one political party that will be the vehicle towards striking a deal ahead of the 2022 election.
ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula did not however attend the meeting.
