The body of a woman was yesterday found under a bed in a rental room in Noonkopir village, Kitengela, Kajiado county.
Police believe that Ann Njeri, 33, was killed and stashed there by a person known to her.
Residents said the woman went missing on July 23.
She had a three-year-old son.
The motive of the murder is yet to be known.
A neighbour Purity Wangari said she noticed a putrid smell and decided to check.
Police said they recovered a metal bar they suspect was used to kill her.
The officers who took the body to the mortuary said it had decomposed and it had injuries.
Isinya subcounty police boss Felix Chepkonga who led detectives at the scene of crime said a post-mortem will reveal what killed her.
Chepkonga said detectives are following crucial leads.

The body was moved to the Kajiado Referral Hospital mortuary.
The area has been experiencing a trend of crimes in the past few days.
In January, the decomposed body of Michael Omondi, a mechanic in Kitegela town, was found buried in a shallow grave, a few metres from where he was allegedly killed in the same area.
A man and his wife, believed to be prime suspects were arrested and arraigned in a Kajiado court.
Last month, a man was killed and his body dumped by the roadside in Kitengela, a few metres from a newly constructed police station.
The body of Daniel Njuguna, who was a casual labourer from Noonkopir, was found by a passerby.
The body had visible injuries on the face, suspected to have been inflicted with a blunt object.
The body of an eight-year-old girl was also found dumped at Orata near Noonkopir after a kidnap ordeal.
The body of Shantel Nzembi that had been stuffed in a gunny bag was found by a passerby who reported the matter at the Kitengela Police Station.
Detectives have already arrested a bodaboda operator in connection with the killing.
Her abductors had demanded a ransom of Sh300,000 to release her.
