A lawmaker has laid plans for a spirited campaign to deconstruct what he termed as “falsehoods peddled in UDA rallies” about projects executed by the President Uhuru Kenyatta administration.

Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu said they will not allow Deputy President William Ruto and his team to take credit for the ventures yet at the same time criticise Jubilee for alleged underperformance.

The first-term lawmaker who is leaning towards ODM leader Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja side says “DP Ruto should not be allowed to have his cake and eat it at the same time”.

He said it cannot happen that the DP wants to claim projects when it is convenient for him, citing the comments about the Standard Gauge Railway.

“When it is convenient, Ruto has been claiming to have contributed in the infrastructure development projects going on in the country, notably the SGR,” Wambugu said.

The MP said it was ironic that the DP has been enumerating the legacy projects “as part of his success stories, taking credit for Jubilee’s achievement.”

He said it was time the DP made his mind on whether he was part of the Jubilee government, further castigating Ruto for "cheering the loudest as ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi imputed corruption in the Jubilee government.”

“Ironically, Ruto, like an opposition figure, was cheering Mudavadi on and even leading delegations in giving him standing ovation as he tore into the costs of these projects, especially SGR,” Wambugu added.

“He must make up his mind. Is he part of the Jubilee administration or not. If not, Ruto must stop going around the country claiming how he is a tested leader as ‘tumejenga barabara, SGR, tukasambaza stima’,” the MP said.

The DP, in various stops across the country, has claimed the milestones of the Jubilee administration are credited to the first term of President Kenyatta’s reign.

Ruto and his allies however hold that the country made significant progress then, and projects slowed down after the President entered into a working arrangement with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The claim has been disputed by his competitors who hold that the handshake created a peaceful environment for business and state development.
