Man shot dead 36 times, woman companion kidnapped

A man was shot dead 36 times in a puzzling attack in Mihango, Utawala, Nairobi.

Police identified him as Kevin Otieno Oyimba from Busia county.

An unknown number of gunmen aboard two vehicles cornered the man on Gesora Road and rained bullets on him, killing him on the spot.

Witnesses told the police the incident happened at 1pm on Friday.

During the incident, a female companion who was with the man escaped unharmed. She was found traumatised and abandoned in Tassia.

Witnesses said the gunmen had bundled the woman into one of their two vehicles and sped off with her.

Police arrived at the scene minutes later and found the victim’s bullet-riddled body near a building under construction on Gesora Road.

"It seems the two were lured there before the shooting happened," a police officer said.

other officers said Oyimba had a dark past. "Someone may have taken advantage of his past, but we don't if it is the reason. He had a dark said," an officer said.

An examination on the body at the scene confirmed it had multiple gunshot wounds.

Police recovered 36 spent cartridges, one live ammunition and five bullet heads.

Nairobi police boss James Mugera said they were yet to know the motive and those behind the attack.

The victim’s body was taken to City Mortuary as investigations commenced. The missing woman is yet to be identified.

Elsewhere, a reveler was shot and killed in a brawl in a bar in Mirema area, Kasarani, on Friday.

This was during a shooting incident in the joint.

Police said they were called to the scene and found the body of David Odera, 34, with gunshot wounds in the head.

Witnesses said the deceased was in company of other people when a commotion ensued. Gunshots were heard before the attackers escaped.

At the scene, four assorted cartridges were recovered, police said.

The incident is under investigation. The body was moved to the mortuary after the incident.

Police said they were reviewing security cameras at the joint and nearby to get the killers.

And a police officer was arrested and held at Kikuyu police station after he picked up a rifle from the station while off duty and started to threaten to shoot pedestrians.

The officer was disarmed and escorted to station where he was booked but after a short while the grabbed the Occurrence Book from the report desk and ran away with it towards town.

He was chased and caught at Makutano area and the OB recovered with one page partially torn.

He was under interrogation pending a decision on what to do with him, police said.
