Azimio Secretary General Junet Mohamed now says even if the planned rallies were demonstrations, President William Ruto would not be able to stop them.

The Coalition has scheduled a consultative meeting with the public on the state of affairs on Wednesday at Kamukunji grounds, and a parallel Jamhuri Celebrations on December 12, at Jacaranda gardens.

"Whereas we've planned no demos, it is important to remind Ruto that even if that was the case, he still would have done nothing about it," Junet said on Tuesday.

"He cannot stop any demos in Kenya. We can't have a president who thinks democracy ends with his/her election. No."

Article 37 of the 2010 Constitution provides that every person has the right to peaceful gatherings, demonstrations and picketing.

Junet also hit out at the Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, saying he "seems to be excited by his new job."

He said the security provided during the meetings should strictly correspond with the needs of the rallies.

"...and no more. And no more. Statements couched as obscure threats, veiled intimidation and, or, arrogance, are unwarranted and unwanted," he added.

Acknowledging that Kenya is a democratic state, Junet said the Raila Odinga-led-Coalition expected the language used by the Kenya Kwanza government to confirm that.

"We expect a language that confirms the regime temporarily in power understands they are ruling a democratic state, not a banana republic. Stop threats."

On Sunday, Ruto directed that Kindiki provides security during the rallies, as he warned that the opposition will not blackmail him.

He said the rallies will not transform his transformative agenda.

Assuring security, Kindiki on Tuesday said the Coalition had to follow the law.

"The organizers must share with security agencies details of their planned activities including schedule, location and frequency and commit to respect the rights and activities of others including those who are not engaged in the demos," he said.
