Detectives are investigating a tragic incident in which a grade eight pupil died after allegedly falling from the rooftop of their school in the Umoja area of Nairobi.

Police reported that the boy's body was discovered on the first floor of the building following the incident.

Surveillance footage has been obtained by the police for review to establish how the incident occurred.

The school, situated in a seven-story building, witnessed the incident on Friday, March 8.

Police have categorized their investigation as a murder inquiry after observing that the injuries sustained by the boy did not match those typically associated with a fall.

Further details are expected to emerge from a postmortem examination.

Four individuals, including two directors, the head teacher, and a teacher responsible for the boarding section, were arrested for interrogation following the incident on Friday night.

Buruburu sub-county police commander Francis Kamau, confirmed ongoing investigations into the tragedy, citing numerous inconsistencies.

“We are investigating murder for now. This is because of many inconsistencies detected,” he said.

An internal investigation is also underway at the school, particularly as the deceased pupil had reportedly been interrogated by a teacher earlier in the day.

The sequence of events leading up to the boy's fall, which occurred around 7:30 pm, remains unclear.

The school operates as a boarding institution with numerous pupils in attendance.

Police collected the child's remains for autopsy, as demanded by the grieving parents.

Parents have called for justice, prompting some to visit the school to ensure the safety of their children.
