No Kenyan is serving as a mercenary in Ukraine - PS Sing'Oei

Russian Federation's report claimed five Kenyans are in Ukraine serving as mercenaries.

Kenya has distanced itself from reports alleging that five individuals from the country are serving as mercenaries in Ukraine.

Foreign Affairs PS Korir Sing'Oei termed the claims as false since Kenya is a signatory 1989 United Nations Convention on International Convention against the Recruitment, Use, Financing and Training of Mercenaries", and the "1977 OAU Convention for the Elimination of Mercenaries in Africa".

The clarification comes after Russia alleged that 5 individuals, perceived to be Kenyans, are serving as mercenaries in Ukraine.

"The Republic of Kenya notes the Russian Federation's report on the "Number of Foreign Mercenaries in Ukraine" published on the X handle @mfa_russia," Singoei said.

"Kenya rejects the allegations and dissociates herself from any alleged mercenary presence and activities in Ukraine."

He said that Kenya's interaction with other State Actors in International Relations continues to be guided by her Foreign Policy of non-interference in affairs of other states, non-alignment as well as peaceful settlement of disputes.

According to a post made by  Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on X, its Ministry of Defence claimed a total of 13,387 foreign mercenaries have arrived in Ukraine to fight the neo-Nazis.

Out of the 13, 387 foreign mercenaries in Ukraine, the MoD noted that 5, 962 have been eliminated.

"The Russian Ministry of Defense continues to track and personally record all foreign mercenaries who arrived in Ukraine to participate in combat operations," the statement read.

Kenya was listed as one of 13 African countries that have sent mercenaries to Ukraine.

Five Kenyans are said to be participating in the war, with zero deaths recorded.

Nigeria leads the list in the continent with 97 mercenaries joining the Ukraine.

It is reported that, in total, 249 Africans have fought for Ukraine, with 103 of them eliminated.
