Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has expressed his commitment to end the dispute between the military and residents of Kamagut and Kiplombe in Uasin Gishu.

However, Duale insisted he would not give room for cartels to stall the process.

"We will not allow cartels to use the criminal justice system to stall the process of resolving the dispute that has spanned close to 29 years," he said.

He was speaking in a meeting with Uasin Gishu county leadership in Eldoret town.

The meeting brought all stakeholders drawn from the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Lands Residents and National Government Administration Officials.

The CS stated that President William Ruto had instructed him to settle the land dispute between KDF and residents.

The long-standing land conflict revolves around the Moi Barracks Recruits Training School and the Kenya Ordnance Factories Corporation in Eldoret.

Approximately 1,200 families are involved, claiming ownership of 4,000 acres near Moi Barracks.

Among them are members of a society, who say they were given the land by the Ministry of Lands in 2006.

This is not the first county where the Defence boss has addressed matters of land disputes between residents and the military.

Last year, the county government of Isiolo and the Kenya Defence Forces agreed to resolve a protracted land dispute pitting the locals and the School of Infantry.

A technical team has been set up to come up with a solution within 14 days over the Isiolo- KDF land dispute.

This was agreed upon after a series of consultative meetings between the Ministry of Defence and the Isiolo County government.

The School of Infantry land is the area contested where both KDF and Isiolo residents claim ownership.

The technical team with members drawn from the Ministry of Defence and the county are expected to go for a fact-finding visit to the site and come up with viable recommendations.

The team is expected to establish boundaries on all KDF-claimed land and also structures built on land claimed by the community and the defence forces.
