The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the closure of Oletepesi-Magadi (B19) Road.

The Authority said the closure follows the occurrence of flash floods in several sections of the road due to heavy downpours.

KeNHA further cautioned road users against any attempts to use the affected area in the interest of their safety.

"We will continue to monitor the water levels and begin restoration works when the water subsides," the Authority said in a statement.

"We remain committed to ensuring seamless connectivity to facilitate safe passage of goods and services for economic prosperity."

A section of the Embu-Meru Highway was also closed after cracks emerged on the Ikong’u bridge.

The crack was on the right side of the road.

Earlier Tuesday, the authority urged motorists plying the Mai Mahiu-Suswa/Narok highway to seek alternative routes after debris was swept

KENHA issued an alert saying motorists should brace for heavy traffic along the said roads as they are impassable at the moment.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority would like to notify the public of the closure of Mai Mahiu - Narok Road,” said a statement on Monday evening

“This follows sudden siltation, coupled with heavy debris deposited on a section stretching over a kilometre this evening at Suswa area, about 27 kilometres from Mai Mahiu town towards Narok.”

The authority said the closure will allow smooth clearance of the siltation and avoid incidents of vehicles getting stuck, among other possible dangers.

“The Authority advises motorists plying this route to use alternative routes including the main Nairobi - Nakuru Highway.”
