A heavy traffic jam is building on Mombasa Road following heavy rains that have left a section of the road past JKIA near City Cabanas flooded.

Video seen by Star showed several vehicles stranded as the flooding situation rendered the section of the road impassable.

Heavy rains continued to pound the City Saturday morning with many areas of Nairobi affected by floods.

Kenya's capital Nairobi was listed among those that will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The ministry said flooding is expected in low-lying areas, riparian areas and urban areas while landslides/mudslides may occur in areas with steep slopes, escarpments and ravines.

As of Saturday, 219 people have lost their lives due to severe weather conditions. 9 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours.

A cumulative 164 people have been reported injured.

Since the flooding crisis, 72 people are currently missing.

A total of 41,248 households have been displaced affecting approximately 206,240 people.•

115 camps have been set up across 19 Counties hosting 27,856 people

The total number of people who have been impacted by the heavy rains is approximately 223,198 people.

 1,967 schools have been affected by the floods.

President William Ruto Friday announced the postponement of school reopening until further notice.

The schools were scheduled to reopen on Monday, May 6 after the initial date of April 29 was postponed.
