The Kenya National Highways Authority has announced the reopening of the Kamulu Kangundo Road.

The Authority said the move follows the subsiding of flood waters at Joska, a section of the highway that was fully submerged after the heavy downpour.

KeNHA said the Joska Athi River Bridge is stable and not overtopping at present although the water levels remain high.

"We are closely monitoring the situation on the ground and are prepared to commence protection works as soon as practically possible," Director Kung'u Ndung'u said.

He appealed to motorists to approach the section with caution due to the ongoing rains that could lead to flooding.

"We remain committed to ensuring seamless connectivity to facilitate the safe passage of goods and services for economic prosperity."

The heavy rains pounding the country have caused huge destruction of road infrastructure with several roads across the country rendered impassable.

Earlier, KeNHA announced the reopening of the Nakuru-Eldoret highway at Timboroa.

The road had been rendered impassable following heavy rains that weakened a section of the road leaving it exhibiting signs of possible collapse.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority is pleased to inform the public that the Nakuru-Eldoret (A8) Highway is open to traffic," Kung'u said in a public notice.

"This follows the completion of remedial works at Timboroa," he stated.

While announcing the closure of the road, Kung'u had cautioned road users against any attempts to use it for safety reasons.

He advised motorists to use the Nakuru-Eldama Ravine-Eldoret and Mau Summit-Kisumu as alternatives.

"Motorists have been rerouted to diversions within the Timboroa area," the director said in a statement.

"All road users are requested to exercise caution, avoid overlapping and follow directions from traffic marshals to ensure smooth flow of traffic," he added.
