Former Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa now wants Kenya Kwanza leaders to stop blackmailing Azimio leader Raila Odinga with the African Union Commission job for calling out the state.

In a statement, Wamalwa insisted that Azimio would not be silent and that they will continue to be the voice of the majority of Kenyans who are suffering.

"Our message to Kenya Kwanza is, stop blackmailing Raila Odinga over AUC Chairmanship for calling you out on your shortcomings, and declare the current flood crisis a National disaster! Azimio will not be gagged and will remain the Voice of the voiceless, silent, suffering, Majority of Kenyans," Wamalwa said on X.

His remarks were in response to comments made by a section of Kenya Kwanza leaders led by National Assembly and Senate Majority leaders, Kimani Ichung'wah and Aaron Cheruiyot.

Speaking on Saturday, Ichung'wah said the position President William Ruto and his administration are campaigning to have Raila clinch (AUC chair) calls for respect.

He said Raila must respect Ruto who is leading his campaigns and remain humble.

"William Ruto understands world politics that's why he is helping you to become AU Commission chair. But if you were to be helped, my brother Raila Odinga please humble yourself because the position that we are campaigning for you led by President Ruto is a position that calls for humility and respect across the entire African Continent and the world over. Respect your chief campaigner."

Cheruiyot on his part, stated that Raila was busy directing criticisms at the man holding the key to his election as AUC boss.

He said the Opposition leader's constituents are African Heads of state who respect the man he was insulting.

"Tinga's constituency now is African Presidents. They hold the key to his next election. He is out here critiquing a man they all hold in such high regard. On election day, when they evaluate his credentials, how do you imagine it will end? Maandamano in Addis?" Cheruiyot posed.

On Friday, Raila accused the government of 'incompetence' in managing the floods.

He said the President should declare floods a national disaster.

"The ministers are not competent and have no experience in running the government," he said.

“We have a problem because the driver does not know where the steering wheel is located.”

The ODM leader had toned down his anti-government stance since February.
