The Kenya National Highways Authority has notified motorists plying Garsen- Witu- Lamu Road to drive with caution.

The Authority said rising water levels in the Tana River and have resulted in the flooding of fields along the road.

KeNHA said the rising water levels follows ongoing heavy downpour experienced upstream.

Director Kung'u Ndung'u urged motorists to be extra alert between Idsowe (Tana River Bridge) and Gamba/Lango la Simba as they use the Garsen- Witu- Lamu Road.

"We anticipate that with increased and continued downpours the road might eventually be overtopped thus hampering safe transportation," he said.

He said motorists should exercise patience and follow the advice of the security officers manning the road as they traverse through the section.

This comes as floods continue to wreak havoc across the country following weeks of heavy rainfall.

Earlier, KeNHA advised motorists to exercise caution while approaching Rongai junction along Kambi ya Moto-Eldama Ravine Road.

Ndung’u said Rongai River had burst its banks leading to overtopping of the junction, posing a possible risk to road users.

“The Authority cautions road users against any attempts to use this section of the road in the interest of their safety. Members of the public are advised to be patient until the water subsides,” he said.
