Local hip hop sensation Camp Mulla have been nominated for Best African Act at the 2012 BET Awards. Camp Mulla, which in less than two years have taken over the showbiz industry by storm, is the first ever Kenyan group to be selected. The group recently performed at the Big Brother Africa reality TV Show in South Africa.

Camp Mulla have been nominated alongside Nigeria's Wizkid and newcomer Ice Prince, Mali’s Makobe, South Africa’s Lira and Sarkodie from Ghana. The BET Awards were established in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television network to celebrate African Americans and other minorities in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment over the past year.

The awards recently introduced wider categories to expand their reach and give musicians of African origin an international platform. Last year, D’Banj and 2Face Idibia shared the awards. The Avengers star Samuel L. Jackson is set to host the July 1 awards ceremony, to be held at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium.
