Two held over books theft
Police in Trans Nzoia county have arrested two suspects over the theft of primary education text books. The suspects, who are believed to be behind the text books theft synidicate in more than 100 schools in the county were arrested after security agents under command of DCIO Paul Wachira tracked them for three months.
Police boss Lucas Ogara said the two are part of a gang that is stealing books in schools to sell in neighbouring countries such as Uganda and Southern Sudan. He said following a tip-off by members of the public, police raided an estate within the town and arrested the culprits with 300 text books from different schools in the county. Ogara said the two will help them track down the other members of the gang who escaped arrest. Police boss said the most affected district was Kwanza and Trans Nzoia East where more than 50 schools have lost books and two guards hacked to death.
