Chief Justice Martha Koome has said that Sexual and Gender-Based Violence courts will soon be rolled out across the country.

The CJ spoke during a meeting with Ambassadors from Denmark and Sweden on Monday.

They discussed the review of the strategic partnerships supported by the International Development Law Organisation.

She said that the courts will ensure tailor-made justice for victims of sexual and gender-based violence.

"It is so clear that we need to have also very serious training of the officers so that they are sensitive to handling the matters of trauma and counselling of the victims," she said.

She said that the first-ever Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court in Shanzu will be relocated to a new site in Mtwapa, as efforts are made to roll out the specialised courts across the country.

Danish Ambassador to Kenya Ole Thonke emphasised the necessity for ensuring that victims of such crimes get speedy justice in courts.

"For many, that's the main reason why they don't use the official justice system because if it takes 3 to 5 years to prosecute"

"what woman, after being violated, will want to spend that long fighting for something that she may or may not get from the court system?" He asked.

On her part, Swedish ambassador Caroline Vicini said that her country is keen to continue supporting Kenya’s justice system through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
