At least seven Kenya Defense Forces soldiers escaped death after their boat, transporting food, capsized in Lamu.

Officials said the incident happened near the Kiwayu Chandani area of the Kiunga ward in Lamu County on Sunday.

The group, which had departed from the Manda camp in Magogoni, Hindi ward, were ferrying food supplies when the incident happened.

The boat was hit by waves in the ocean overturning it.

Local fishermen rushed to their rescue.

Officials said all the food supplies aboard the boat, including rice, potatoes, sugar, and oil were lost.

The victims were taken to a local hospital for attention.
