Kisii Woman Rep Donya Toto on Friday urged political leaders from the region to set aside their personal interests for the sake of region's development.

She said it was time leaders begun assessing themselves and see whether they are doing what the electorate sent them to do as time ticks towards another general election

"At the end of day, each leader is going to show what he has done to Mwananchi on account of the funds entrusted to them. Any side shows would make our people lose big on development," she said.

Donya took issue with what she described as victimisation of staff at the county saying such things continue to derail progress.

She was speaking at Bobaracho in Nyaribari Chache during a charity mission.

Food stuffs worth millions were distributed to residents through the Donya Charity Mission.

The Donya Charity mission is done in joint partnership with friends and supporters.

Donya spoke of plans to ensure more people get water through digging of boreholes.

She said despite Kisii experiencing heavy rains throughout the year, there was still low water connectivity.

The Woman rep said female genital mutilation (FGM) was still rife in Gusii despite the act being proscribed.

She decried low funding from the government to the women Rep kitty saying it was a challenge against the many projects they are mandated to carry out.

The function was attended by MCAs Ibrahim Ongubo (Bobaracho), Bouse Mairura (Masimba) and Ishmael Matundura (Bogiakugumu).

Ongubo on his part expressed dismay that Kisii County cannot absorb fully development funds dispersed from Treasury.

"Every year funds come and return to Treasury and when they are released for another fiscal year it comes on reduced scales," he said.

"From the Controller of Budget, we have only used Sh800 million when other billions go back. We should ask ourselves where the rain begun beating us," Ongubo said.

He spoke of insufficient ECDE classes and of roads in deplorable state yet funds were released but returned.

Masimba MCA Bouse Mairura was also critical of the state of affairs in the county.

"We did another round of mutation yesterday (Thursday) in accordance with the law, we are waiting approval from the Controller of Budget. Once this is done it will be the time the county will begin utilising the 2023 /2024 budget.

"It is a sad moment in Kisii County, while other counties have exhausted the 2023/24 budget and have moved on to 2024/2025 budget, it is when we are stuck one year back," Mairura said.
