Kenya National and Highways Authority has issued a traffic advisory to motorists plying Mombasa Road particularly those around the Konza area.

KeNHA on Thursday noted that there was heavy traffic around the Konza area, urging motorists to be patient.

"KeNHA advises motorists travelling through the Konza Area to exercise patience and caution due to ongoing construction works causing traffic delays," the highways authority said.

KeNHA said it is doing its best to hasten the construction happening along the route which is the cause of the traffic snarl.

"The Authority understands the inconvenience and assures you that efforts are being made to expedite the process," KeNHA said.

Motorists are to expect a smooth flow of traffic along the route by the weekend, KeNHA said.

"Please drive carefully and follow all traffic regulations. We anticipate smoother traffic flow by the weekend. Thank you for your cooperation," the highways authority said.

On Wednesday, the Kenya National Highway Authority advised motorists to refrain from attempting to cross the Athi River Bridge until the water levels recede to safe levels.

In a statement on X, Kenha advised motorists of a significant traffic disruption resulting from ongoing rains.

“Athi River flooded early this morning and the bridge linking Kitengela to Mombasa Road along Namanga Road is impassible,” Kenha said.

“Take an alternate route by diverting through the East African Portland Cement junction via Athi River to Devki.”

Motorists were stuck along Nairobi-Namanga Road after it flooded due to flash floods.

A spot check by the Star yesterday established that several passengers and motorists plying the route were caught off guard by the floods as they headed to Nairobi and Namanga general directions.

They got stuck in their vehicles between River Athi Bridge near Shell petrol station and Shalom Community Hospital in Athi River, Machakos County.

The situation has since led to a snarl that continues to pile.

The said Bridge has swollen with the adjacent old bridge submerged by the flood waters.

Athi River East subcounty police commander Anderson Mbae said the situation had been caused by the swollen River Athi which has busted its banks.
