Men's 10000m contest has a new winner this season.

Edwin Kipkemoi Seko emerged the winner during the Absa Kip Keino Classic, at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Seko clocked 28:30.43 as he battled resilient Amos Kipkurui Lagat (28:39.9) to the wire in the 25 lap showpiece that remained a two horse affair at the tail end.

"The race was tactical but I managed to endure the strong opposition. I was motivated by the cheering fans," stated Seko.

The event, Absa Kip Keino Classic, was sponsored by Absa Bank.

During the Absa Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour fifth edition, athletes will compete at Gold level earning both prize money and world ranking points.

The yearly tour was launched in 2020 and is taking shape to be a world-class event.

Seko lost the race last year by a whisker to world silver medalist Daniel Ebenyo in a similar manner.

After finishing second behind Seko, Kirui ( 28:30.9) while stated:

"Coming second was motivational because it means if I go back to Kaptagat and work on speed I can easily qualify for my first Olympics."

Third place Kelvin Kiplagat ended the tape in 28:32.40.
