The National 400m Hurdles champion Wiseman Were has pledged a podium finish at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

In an exclusive interview on Wednesday, the 26-year-old hurdling maestro vowed to light up the Stade de France in Saint-Denis on his way to unprecedented glory.

Were's remarks come days after he stormed the Kip Keino Classic 400m hurdles title with a spectacular meet record of 48.57 at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday.

The masterstroke performance secured him the coveted seat on the plane to the French capital where he will seek to prove his gumption as a world-class act on the track.

Were said he is ready to steer the nation to a phenomenal conquest, adding that he was thrilled to punch a ticket to the premier quadrennial global showpiece.

“I am happy to have qualified for the Olympics. The outcome didn't come as a surprise to me because I was a hundred per cent sure I would carry the day. I had prepared adequately for the race," Were remarked.

Were believes his animated form at Nyayo bolstered his resolve to fire Team Kenya's 4×400m relay team to victory at the forthcoming World Relay Championships in the Bahamas.

He comprises the talent-laden Kenyan roster that also boasts Zablon Ekwam, David Sanayek, Boniface Mweresa, Brian Tenega, Moitalel Nadokila, Kelvin Kipkorir, Nathaniel Kipngetich, and Kennedy Kimeu.
