CS Ababu appoints Gacheru CEO for WRC Safari Rally

Ababu will chair the team whilst Peter Tum, Principal Secretary in the State Department of Sports, will be the Vice-Chair.

In Summary

•Members of the team will include the PS State Department of Tourism, a Representative from the Kenya Motor Sports Federation, KCB Group CEO Paul Russo, Caroline Gatimu, Safina Khan, Isaac Melly and Maurice Chetambe.

•Gacheru will be the CEO of the WRC Safari Rally Project and Secretary to the Oversight Team.

Sports Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Ababu Namwamba, has appointed Charles Gacheru as the WRC Safari Rally Kenya CEO for three years.

In a gazette notice issued on Friday, CS Ababu also named the Oversight Team for WRC. 

Ababu will chair the team whilst Peter Tum, Principal Secretary in the State Department of Sports, will be the Vice-Chair.

Members of the team will include the PS State Department of Tourism, a Representative from the Kenya Motor Sports Federation, KCB Group CEO Paul Russo, Caroline Gatimu, Safina Khan, Isaac Melly and Maurice Chetambe.

Gacheru will be the CEO of the WRC Safari Rally Project and Secretary to the Oversight Team.

Gacheru is a seasoned sports Organiser and is the founder and MD of IMG Kenya.

Among the events that Gacheru has been involved in include several Olympic and Commonwealth Games; local and international golf tournaments including the Magical Kenya Ladies Open, the Kenya Open, the Karen Masters and many amateur golf series across East Africa. 

Gacheru has also been involved in the Safari Sevens Rugby Championship and the Sevens Circuit. In football, he is currently the chairman of Tusker FC.

Through his company, Gacheru manages the entire sports portfolios for KCB Bank and KBL across rally, golf, rugby, football, chess and volleyball.

In his younger days, Gacheru played badminton for Kenya, donning the national colours at the young age of 16 years whilst still a student at Mangu High School. He is an avid golfer and a past golf columnist with the Business Daily newspaper for over 10 years.
