As technology evolves, consumers are looking for gadgets that occupy less space or serve multiple purposes.

The Star's Victor Amadala had a brief chat with LG Electronics East Africa's corporate digital strategist Lesley Njeri who explained how the firm promotes smart living while addressing space constraints for families.

Explain how LG is addressing consumer demand for space-efficient and multi-purpose gadgets. Give specific products or features designed to optimize space while enhancing functionality for families.

Absolutely! In Kenya, where urban living is on the rise, space-efficient solutions are a game-changer.

LG has introduced some impressive solutions. For instance, the LG Bottom Freezer Fridge is a perfect fit for those who need ample storage but are mindful of space.

Its innovative design optimizes storage capacity without taking up too much room. Placing the freezer section at the bottom, not only provides easy access to fresh produce and everyday items but also maximizes usable space in the refrigerator compartment. This means more room for groceries without taking up additional floor space.

Lifestyle disease as a cause of death is rampant. This has been attributed to smart living that provides less room for physical exercise. How is LG balancing between efficiency and healthy living?

You've touched on a critical issue; the concern for healthy living is more pressing than ever. At LG, we're dedicated to harmonizing efficiency with a healthy lifestyle through our cutting-edge smart technology solutions. Let's take our laundry innovations as an example.

Our washing machines are equipped with Allergy Care and Steam Technology, which are certified asthma and allergy-friendly. These innovations not only ensure a clean home environment but also promote health by eliminating allergens and bacteria effectively.

In a country like Kenya, where allergens and dust can be prevalent, these features can make a significant difference in promoting a healthier home environment.

Describe LG's approach to achieving a balance between efficiency and healthy living in the context of smart technology. Provide examples of how LG products promote health and well-being while maintaining efficiency.

What are consumers considering smart in products in 2023? Is it the same aspect they were looking for last year, for instance in TVs?

It's an exciting year for smart tech. Consumers in 2023 are really valuing products that maximize functionality, especially in TVs. What's catching the eye are larger, brighter OLED TVs.

Picture quality has always been a big deal, and now, it's brighter than ever. Additionally, LCD sets with Mini LED backlights are gaining traction for the superior picture quality they offer.

Kindly share insights into the current consumer trends for smart products in 2023. How does this differ from previous years?

One striking trend is the appetite for bigger screens. People want that immersive, cinema-like experience right at home. Think screens stretching beyond 85 inches.

It's impressive. For gaming enthusiasts, innovations like mini-LED backlighting and faster refresh rates are making a huge difference, delivering a more responsive and engaging gaming experience.

Streaming services continue to be a big draw. Most new TVs come with built-in platforms for services like Netflix, Disney Plus, and Hulu.

No need for an extra streaming device. Picture quality is another priority. OLED and Mini LED backlights are becoming standard, offering a truly immersive viewing experience.

Smart TV platforms are crucial, giving users seamless access to a plethora of services and apps. And voice assistants? They're now a staple, letting you control your TV with just your voice, thanks to Bixby, Google Assistant, and Alexa.

Kenya recently held a continental climate change summit. It called for among other things for tech firms to come up with a take-back policy. Is this something you'd consider going forward?

Address LG's stance on environmental responsibility, especially in response to the recent climate change summit's call for tech firms to implement take-back policies. Discuss LG's plans or considerations regarding this matter.

LG is fully on board with this initiative. We believe in the principle of extended producer responsibility, meaning we take ownership of our products even after they've served their purpose. While we do not currently have a take-back policy in place, we are actively exploring ways to implement such a policy in the future.

We believe that it is our responsibility as a tech company to take a proactive approach to environmental sustainability. We are constantly looking for ways to reduce waste and minimize our carbon footprint, and we are committed to working with our customers and partners to promote sustainable practices throughout the industry.

Cybersecurity is a top issue when it comes to technology. What are some of the innovations used to safeguard consumers?

At LG, we take cybersecurity incredibly seriously. It's woven into everything we do. Here's how we make sure your data stays in safe hands:

Highlight LG's commitment to cybersecurity. Explain the innovations and measures LG has implemented to ensure consumer data and privacy are safeguarded in its technology products.

We use state-of-the-art encryption and secure communication methods in our products. It's like having a digital fortress around your information.

The firm is always on the ball with software updates. That's something we take pride in. It's not just about getting new features; it's about making sure you're shielded from any potential security risks. And trust me, that applies to all our products, from your smart fridge to your home entertainment system.

Our home devices are designed with an extra layer of protection. Take our refrigerators and washing machines, for example. They come with built-in security features, acting like a digital sentry, guarding against any unauthorized access.

We also have a strong network of cybersecurity experts that we're in constant collaboration with. This ensures we're always ahead of the curve, ready to tackle any potential threats, especially in products like our smart TVs and other connected devices.

So, you can rest easy knowing that your data and privacy are as important to us as they are to you. Whether it's a TV, a home appliance, or any other LG device, we've taken every measure to ensure it's not just smart, but safe too.
