Internet domains body KeNIC, picks Paul Kariuki as chairperson

Prior to his appointment, Kariuki was a director of the ICT Centre at the University of Nairobi.

Kenya Network Information Centre (KeNIC) has appointed Paul Kariuki as its chairperson following the retirement of Geoffrey Shimanyula.

The latter had served almost three months at the internet domains body. He came to power when the country had only 48,495 domains.

During his tenure, the board recorded 11 per cent growth in domain registrations and 17 per cent in renewables.

"It is an honour to serve as the next chairperson of KeNIC, a company that I am passionate about and have been involved in. I thank my predecessor who has done impressive work. I am optimist of great growth ahead,'' Kariuki said. 

Prior to his appointment, Kariuki was a director of the ICT Centre at the University of Nairobi.

He holds a Master’s degree in Applied Computer Science and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Nairobi School of Computing and Informatics.

He has extensive experience and knowledge in Information and Communication Technology.

He has more than 13 years years of experience in overseeing IT operations, analysing and designing information systems to overseeing on-time delivery of business solutions.

He has carried out numerous consultancies in IT audit, tender evaluation and software development. 

KeNIC is a registry with the sole responsibility of administering, managing and operating the.KE domains in Kenya. 

In April 1993, the Internet Assigned Number Authority (IANA) delegated the administration of the.KE registry to Dr. Shem K. Ochuodho, while Mr. Randy Bush, took up the technical contact, providing technical and domain name registration for the.KE registry on a voluntary basis.
