AfriKonekta has partnered with Google Maps to provide intercity and cross-border bus transit information for Kenya and 15 other countries within its network, a first in Africa.

This collaboration will allow travelers to plan trips, compare fares and schedules, book, and pay online.

In the partnership the tech firm will integrate precise transit information into Google Maps, enhancing accessibility for budget-conscious long-distance travelers across Africa.

AfriKonekta operates in Kenya and Zambia, with connectivity to 14 neighboring countries and border towns.

Travelers in Kenya will now use Google Maps to search for available routes on AfriKonekta, in an effort to improving route planning and convenience.

“This initiative aims to make route planning effortless for travelers,” said the tech firm’s CEO and Co-Founder Tichaona Dande.

With this partnership, Google Maps will assist travelers with comprehensive intercity and cross-border bus transit information.

“Traveling in Africa is often unorganized, difficult to plan, chaotic, and unreliable, especially when planning more complex trips that may involve multiple routes or countries.”

“We are confident that this technology will facilitate better trip planning, resulting in greater convenience for travelers across Africa,” Dande noted.

Incorporated in Finland, AfriKonekta is a long-distance mobility platform offering a tech-enabled bus travel experience.

Since its official launch on August 16, 2023, AfriKonekta has partnered with over 45 bus operators, servicing more than 400 destinations across Africa. The company has an expansion strategy targeting over 22 countries.

“Our commitment is to build a connected Africa through broader and deeper regional and continental integration,” Mr. Dande reiterated.
