Tharaka Nithi needy students benefit from Sh3.8m bursary kitty

Those from secondary day schools will get Sh5,000 those in secondary boarding schools Sh10,000

Students at Nguruki Day Mixed Secondary School in Mwimbi Ward have benefitted from Sh3.8 million bursary kitty.

Tharaka Nithi Woman Representative Susan Ngugi launched the disbursement on Tuesday, courtesy of the National Government Affirmative Action Fund.

Ngugi said needy learners from secondary day schools will get Sh5,000 while those in secondary boarding schools will get Sh 10,000 each.

"I am giving the needy in day schools Sh5,000 and the very needy in boarding schools Sh 10,000," Ngugi said.

"I have issued Sh100,00o cheque to 2o needy children, each Sh5,000. There were cases everywhere but we were very fair. We consulted the chief and the area MCAs that is why we came up with those 20 children."

The event was attended by Tharaka Nithi county commissioner Wesley Koech, Tharaka Nithi county director of Education Bridget Wambua among other leaders.

Machogu said the government is keen on helping students coming from vulnerable families.

"I wish to announce that the National Treasury and Economic Planning has released Sh2.7bn for 180,000 eligible students," Machogu said.
