Keep off destructive politics, Waiguru urges Kirinyaga youths

Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru has urged Kirinyaga residents to steer away from leaders and individuals who want to lure them into participating in Azimio la Umoja protests.

The governor who termed the protests as chaotic and destructive said they hold no economic significance owing to the large-scale destruction that has been witnessed in the previous protests.

As such, she advised the locals, especially the youths, to utilize their precious time in national building and give a wide berth to activities hellbent on destroying their own country.

Speaking on Wednesday, the governor lauded the county residents for so far maintaining peace and order as she told off a few individuals who have been attempting to misuse the County youths by engaging them in protests.

She said that at the moment the county youths are busy engaging in income-generating activities through the numerous development programmes that have been initiated by both the National and County governments.

She said at the moment the County is yearning for development and not destructive protests and misleading politics.

“Let them be advised that there will be no Protests in the County. We have no time for such protests because this is a working season where we are engaged in meaningful activities that will ultimately improve our economy,” she said.

Waiguru further condemned the protests terming them as a big liability to the Country’s economy.

“The protests are not adding any value to the economy because going by what we have seen in the previous protests, the demonstrators have engaged in wanton looting and destruction of infrastructure which risks spelling doom to our economy,” she said.

The governor spoke during an inspection visit of the ongoing Cabro installation project in Sagana town where she assured that her administration would in the next two weeks fully absorb the casuals undertaking the projects and who currently have been working in shifts.

She said the project will extensively change the face of the town thus spurring urbanization and contributing to attracting investors.

She noted that so far, her administration has undertaken a similar project in Kagio, Kutus, Wanguru, and Kerugoya towns and is currently undertaking Sagana and Kagumo towns.

The governor further described the upcoming Sagana Industrial park, EPZ and affordable housing units as life transformative, saying the mega projects will open massive employment opportunities to the locals.

Area MCA Jeremiah Makimi lauded the county-sponsored project saying it will go a long way in addressing the financial needs of the locals through the massive job opportunities.

Makimi further noted that the industrial park will help local farmers get value for their work through a ready market.

He pledged that he would continue supporting the local county government as it continues fulfilling its election pledges.
