Gatundu North residents can now heave a sigh of relief after the government started putting up a law court and a lands registry in the area.

MP Elijah Njoroge Kururia said the two developments have already been gazetted by the Judiciary and the Ministry of Lands.

Speaking while inspecting the projects’ progress at Kamwangi, Njoroge said both the national government and the county government have collaborated to establish the two offices.

“We have collaborated with the Kiambu county government so that we can decide on which facilities will be rehabilitated and be turned into the law court and the lands registry. The NG-CDF has allocated Sh6 million for renovations of the courts and Sh3 million for the lands registry. The  two will be open to members of the public in a month’s time,” Njoroge said.

The MP noted that the project was a reprieve to thousands of residents who have been travelling for long distances to Gatundu South, Thika and Ruiru in search of justice in the law courts.

"Gatundu North constituency has been lagging behind in terms of developments for decades and this project is one of the crucial projects that will change the face of this region. Besides that, the court will ensure that locals access justice system services with ease," he said.

Njoroge said establishment of a land registry in the area will help solve protracted land disputes and go a long way in ensuring that the locals access services.

“Land matters have become so emotive in this region and residents have travel to either Gatundu South or Thika to get the services. However, this will be a thing of the past because in one month’s time these services will be available at Kamwangi,” he said.

Resident Mary Njoki said most locals and especially the elderly, have not been accessing justice system services since they cannot travel to far-flung courts due to old age and financial constraints.

"There are so many unresolved disputes in villages within Gatundu North and we were hopeful that the disputes will be solved and justice be served to victims and claimants once a court is established here," Njoki said.
