Former ruling party Kanu has asked President William Ruto to dissolve the Cabinet to end the ongoing protests in the country.

The party asked Ruto to quickly appoint an all-inclusive cabinet which will focus on the challenges facing the country.

Kiambu County party's secretary Karanja Sakina said an overhaul of the cabinet will assure Kenyans that their needs will be approached better.

Sakina, however, noted that there is no need to dissolve Parliament since the current Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission does not have commissioners to conduct an election.

Sakina advised Kenyans not to pressure the MPs to resign or the Parliament to be dissolved, urging the government to initiate talks on addressing demands raised by the protesting youths.

“As of now we don't have an IEBC, and dissolving the Parliament will be a great mistake no matter what the legislators do. We will need the Parliament in many ways,” he said.

“The MPs will come to defend themselves before the people. The majority of them failed to listen to their electorates and passed the Finance Bill despite their calls to reject it,” Sakina said.

However, Ruto last Wednesday declined to sign the Finance Bill that had sparked deadly protests in the country and has sent it back to parliament for amendments

Former county chairman David Mbiyu said so many people of all ages were supporting the Gen Zs who are protesting.

“The government should not underestimate them. It needs to do something that will give them hope. We are urging the president to swallow the bitter bullet and dissolve his cabinet and form an all-inclusive one” he said.

"An all-inclusive cabinet needs to have youths, middle-aged people and old people. The individuals should not have scandals, but be people of high integrity" Mbiyu said.

The duo spoke at Limuru sub-county when Sakina met with the area party officials.

Mbiyu asked the president to ensure the recruitment of IEBC commissioners is fast-tracked to ensure that qualified individuals take those vacancies to ensure the smooth running of the electoral agency.

"We are brothers and sisters. We need to coexist, do business and move freely at all times. However, the ongoing protests are telling us all including the international community that all is well" he said.

Mbiyu condemned the police for using force to disperse unarmed protesting youths, asking Ruto to soften his approach towards Gen Zs.

Sakina noted that the businesses have been affected too much since people cannot move owing to protests.

"When protests happen for several days, a negative impact is felt by the growing economy, which is very unfortunate for a country like Kenya," he said.
