Residents of Engineer Town in Kinangop Constituency have decried the rise of insecurity cases, a situation they have blamed on laxity by security agencies in tackling criminals who have been terrorising them.

Residents claimed five people have been killed in the recent past, but efforts to seek justice and ensure the suspects behind the killings are arrested have been unfruitful.

In the recent incident, Peter Macharia, aged 31, was attacked and killed by unknown assailants on Thursday as he went home from work.

According to Ibrahim Mwangi and other residents, the incident took place at Sende Moto estate, and such incidents have taken place in similar instances.

Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Badilisha accused some security agencies of sleeping on the job and failing to tackle the crimes.

He has called for their immediate transfer to restore security.

Residents said lack of security lights was a major cause of such cases.

They claimed most streets in the town are left dark and desolate, a situation that criminals have always taken advantage of, especially at nighttime.

The move has posed a risk to locals walking at night and business people operating late at night.

The residents are pushing for the installation of street lights along the narrow streets and pathways within the town and nearby estates.
