Memorial service for 21 Hillside Academy fire victims programme

The service is underway at Mweiga Stadium in Nyeri.

The interdenominational memorial service for the 21 victims of the Hillside Endarasha Academy fire tragedy is underway in Nyeri.

The service is taking place at Mweiga Stadium as had earlier been announced by the government.

The programme will be coordinated by Bishop Paul Wanjohi.

According to the programme, the first order of the day will be prayers at Naromoru Funeral Home by Bishop Moses Irungu of Gospel Outreach church at 6 am.

Everyone is expected to be at the stadium by 8 am for the service to begin at 8:30 am.

The service will begin with an opening prayer from Bishop Murimi followed by a word of welcome from the chair Kieni West Pastors Association Reverend Bildard Wangondu.

There will then be a hymn, lead and resurrection words followed by praise and worship by Deliverance Church.

The next session will have intercessory prayers from the National Government, the family of the victims, officials from the accidents/fires department and the school.

A general eulogy for the fire victims will be presented by the Hillside Endarasha Academy school management.

Tributes for the deceased will then be presented by the parents of the fire victims and other pupils from the school.

There will be a choir session from different denominations.

They include the Catholic church choir led by Fr Herman Kiboi, PCEA Mweiga choir led by Reverend Kairu and County Government of Nyeri choir.

This will then be followed by Bible readings, a hymn, and the sermon by the PCEA moderator, Reverend Thegu Mutahi.

Archbishop Reverend Anthony Muheria will then make a prayer for the families.

At 11 am, there will be a session for giving offerings followed by brief remarks from Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, Education CS Julius Ogamba and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The programme is expected to end at 11.30 am with a benediction session.
