Kwale High, a national school in Matuga sub-county has reclaimed back its lost glory as three students score A plain in the just released KCSE results.
The school also got 24 A minuses, 87 B+, 114 B, 88 B minus, 27 C+, and 3C scoring a mean score of 8.979 and a mean grade of B higher than that of last year's mean score of 8.395 and a mean grade of B-.
The first position was taken by Daniel Muasya Musembi who scored a mean grade of A with 84 points and A in all seven subjects.
He was followed by Bakari Nyondo and Brian Mumo who scored A with 81 points respectively.
The school had a total of 343 candidates who sat for the 2023 KCSE examinations.
Their performance ha put Kwale on a national grid for being among counties that has produced top students in the Coastal region.
The school has made history after beating their neighbours Matuga Girls which is also a national school.
The Girls National School has registered 5 A minuses, 17 B+, 38 B, 76B-, 50 C+, 35C, 9C-, 1D+ and I D.
They scored a mean score of 7.703 a slight improvement from last year's mean score of 7.38.
In 2022, Matuga Girls made a name saving the county from shame after producing a single A of 81 points in Kwale ending a six-year dry spell of Grade A in the region in the KCSE exams.
Kwale has been performing poorly since 2016 with most schools failing to get As.
Speaking through a phone interview, Kwale High School Chief Principal Michael Mutua attributed the outstanding performance to God.
He said God has been faithful to them to keep their dream of becoming the best school alive.
"God above all, in as much as we worked har. He is to be praised," he said.
Mutua also congratulated the students for giving their best to bring glory and make both the school and parents happy.
The principal said the students were very disciplined and focused on their education.
He said the school staff and management are also to be given credit for their determination and resilience to overcome challenges to produce great candidates.
Mutua also hailed the county bursary program of Elimu Ni Sasa for being supportive in ensuring students get quality education.
He said the bursary program played a key role in keeping learning activities uninterrupted and that every student gets a fair opportunity for education.
Matuga Girls Principal Gladys Nyamvula said God has been great and once again the school has produced incredible performance.
234 KCSE candidates sat for the exams.
She said the mean score has improved adding the Girls' school is moving on a positive trajectory.
Nyamvula said they were able to keep up with the high competition by ensuring early coverage of the syllabus and thorough revisions for the candidates.
"Our commitment to finishing the syllabus and revisions helped a lot," she said.
Nyamvula said they expect to do better next year and reclaim their position.
At least 10, 635 candidates sat for the 2023 KCSE national examination in Kwale County.
