Rider shot and robbed of motorcycle in Isiolo

A businessman was shot and seriously wounded during a robbery  in Kinna, Isiolo county.

Police said the victim was riding home after closing his business in Kurkuji village when six thugs struck, two armed with rifles and others with crude weapons aboard two unregistered motorcycles.

The gang grabbed the motorcycle and fired several shots in the air and at the rider.

He was injured in the right leg under the knee.

The gang escaped with the motorcycle as the victim was rushed to Kinna hospital for first aid and later to Maua Level Five Hospital for specialised treatment. Police said no arrest has been made over the Monday incident.

The area is facing a rise in armed crime linked to gangs operating from Meru and Isiolo.

The gangs are at times sponsored by local businessmen and politicians.

Police say they have profiled the gang and efforts to trace them are ongoing.

Meanwhile, a night guard was accidentally injured when a police officer fired a bullet from his pistol in a confrontation with suspected thugs in Kisumu town.

Police said the incident happened on Tuesday morning near Kentones building.

Police had been confronting a gang when one of the officers accidentally discharged a bullet from his pistol.

The bullet hit the ground and ricocheted before hitting a guard who was standing nearby on his left thigh.

He was rushed to Inuka Hospital where he was treated and discharged in fair condition, police said. During the incident, one suspect was arrested while his accomplices escaped.

Police said a bolt cutter and one crowbar were recovered at the scene.

Police are investigating the incident.

And police are investigating the drowning of a man in Isiukhu River in Kakamega county.

The body of Felix Chirain Manyengo, 36, was found in the river days after he was reported missing.

Manyengo was reported missing on March 10 after he had a domestic quarrel with his wife.

The body had foam in the mouth and nose when police arrived to move it to the mortuary pending autopsy.

No arrest has been made over the Tuesday discovery but police handling the matter said they were investigating whether it was suicide, drowning or murder.
