Several people injured after minibus overturns in Machakos accident

Several people have sustained injuries after a passenger service vehicle got involved in an accident in Machakos County.

The lot—passengers and the minibus operators got injured after the motor vehicle got involved in a self-accident along the Machakos – Kitui road in the Kiseveni area on the outskirts of Machakos town on Saturday.

Eyewitnesses said the motor vehicle driver lost control before the car rolled leading to the injuries.

Machakos County Roads executive Rita Ndunge responded to the scene shortly after the incident happened.

Ndunge said 41 people got injured in the accident and were rushed to Machakos Level 5 hospital for medication.

“The bus was moving from Mbitini to Nairobi through Machakos town when the accident occurred leading to the injuries of 41 people,” Ndunge told the press at the scene of the accident.

Members of the public flocked the scene as rescue operations continued with luggage scattered all over the road.

The officer from Machakos police station responded to the accident, helped in the rescue mission and processed the scene normalising operations. The motor vehicle was towed to the same police station awaiting inspection.

Police have launched investigations into the traffic road accident incident.

The incident happened hours after two passengers of a lorry died on the spot after the motor vehicle got engaged in a self-involved accident near the Green Park Gardens area along the Nairobi – Mombasa highway in Athi River, Machakos County on Saturday.

Athi River East subcounty police commander Anderson Mbae said the motor vehicle’s driver sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Shalom Community Hospital for medication.

The bodies were removed to the same facility’s mortuary awaiting autopsy while the motor vehicle was towed to Athi River police station pending inspection.
