There was song and dance in Embu town after All Saints Embu High School brought the trophy home.

They are the newly crowned 2024 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association Rugby 15s champions.

The school took to the streets of Embu  parading the trophy of what they termed a milestone victory for a trophy that has eluded them for two years, despite being the national champions.

All Saints sealed the victory after beating defending champions St. Mary’s Kisubi from Uganda 24-23 in a hotly contested final.

The squad  gathered at Embu stadium to celebrate the win with their fans and supporters before making a grand entry back to school where the team was treated to a luncheon.

“We are glad that for the first time in the history of Embu, we have been able to grow champions that can get to that level,” coach Benson Kinyua said.

He said focus now shifts to International Championships to be held in Monaco in December this year where the school would represent the continent alongside Vihiga High and St. Joseph Girls.

School Managing Director Tom Mwalimu said it has been a long journey and struggle that has finally paid off for the team, which has beaten all odds to get to the national limelight.

“We have conquered East Africa, our next journey is  to conquer the world,” Mwalimu said.

He exuded confidence the team would also perform better in the international championships.

The School Board of Management Chair Kithinji Kiragu attributed the victory to discipline, hard work and cooperation between players, coach and the technical bench.

Another team that celebrated their win was St. Teresa Kithimu Girls who emerged 5th in girls’ rugby 7s in the same championships.
